excellent prixe fixe lunch 5-20 min walk from jacob javits, <$25pp

I have a conference @jacob javits today and want to take advantage of my "day off" to enjoy an excellent prixe fixe lunch within reasonable walking distance from the center. It doesn't even have to be prixe fixe.. but something that is typically expensive for dinner but is significantly more affordable for lunch that i should try...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

  1. You should try Le Madeleine on 9th ave 43rd.

    1. Most people would probably not consider dinner at Le Madeleine to be in the expensive category. And the food, while nicely prepared, is really nothing special.

dbBistro Moderne, on 44th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs., is 4-star chef Daniel Boulud's take on Modern French bistro cuisine. They offer a lunch special priced according to which main course you order, all in the $30's. The food's delicious and the space has attractive contemporary decor. I'm not sure you can walk it from the JJC in 20 minutes (Are you a fast walker?), but it's the closest place I can think of that fits what you are looking for.

Other possibilities that are a short cab ride away....

      Town is on 56th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs. The 3-course lunch prix-fixe is $26. Delicious food and a gorgeous space.

Jean George is in the Trump Int'l Hotel, on Central Pk. W., b/t 60th & 61st Sts. I've never been, but it is one of the city's best. There's a 2 course lunch for $28 + $14 for each additional course.

Wherever you end up, I hope you have an enjoyable meal.
