Classic Custard, Freeport, Me

Classic Custard serves very good frozen custard on Route 1 in Freeport. I had a single scoop of the coffee flavor and it was dense, creamy, and wonderful. The "flavor of the day" was pumpkin pie. There are LOTS of flavors. They make concretes, sundaes, floats, and shakes, too.
Their hours for the Fall are 11-8.

P.S. If you're traveling through with a dog, they also sell Doghouse Kitchen dog treats for .25 each.

    1. Frozen Custard in Maine? Wow, this frozen custard craze really IS going nationwide!

        1. Went there last summer. I thought it was just okay. The best frozen custard I have ever had is in NJ at the shore, a place called the Custard Hut.

            1. I've had several GREAT flavors at Classic Custard. When I'm driving past, I check out the day's special. Recently it was chocolate chip - I wasn't interested. But the ginger and the dulce de leche were both fantastic.

Frozen custard is far from new in Maine. Hodgson's in Gray has been around forever, and I remember having frozen custard at fairs more than 40 years ago.

Might be up that way again in October, if you know...please post when Classic and Hodgson's will be closing for the season, thanks! Is Toot's Ice Cream closed already?

                  • We really like Classic Custard. They have really creamy frozen custard, especially if you go for the flavor of the day. They are closed now for the season, but around Thanksgiving and Christmas, they open to sell quarts of flavors like Pumpkin Pie, Eggnog, and the like.

                      1. classic custard is sweet i love that place. the custard is so creamy and delicious. also since it is made daily its always fresh, and the flavor of the day idea is amazing. they just opened up a new hamburger place next door called classic cookout that is really good too.
