SOMA or surronding area

Coming out to San Francisco in October for a wedding and was wondering if anyone could recommend a nice charming restaurant for couple. We're staying on Third St. and Market for the weekend, but we'd be willing to venture out to other neighborhoods for good eats.

Trendy spots are welcome, but not looking to get in a shirt and tie. If anyone is familiar with nyc, we're more of a downtown type of people. Don't care if it's a scene, but not looking for a boring area either. Somewhere we can eat and grab a drink in the area if possible. We're open to all types of food, too.

Thank you.

This is a pretty random assortment of suggestions. You'd do well to read some recent topics to get an idea of the 25 or so places that sound most interesting, then post a list and ask for feedback.

I think you would find Mission St and Valencia St more like "downtown" than SOMA. Both have people out at bars and cafes and walking, while you really need to take a cab to get to most SOMA spots.

In the Mission I would highly recommend Range and Limon. Range is more up-scale californian while Limon is Peruvian with excellent ceviche. Delfina would be the one I would recommend most highly.

fresh nyc transplant here and i do recommend coco500.
        bar crudo near union square.
        bocadillos in north beach.

living in soma its hard to find a neighborhood place with well prepared food. everything is geared to tourists or fine dining.

those above mentioned three are the closest thing to casual + quality ingredients, a la mary's fish camp or tia pol.

If you go as far from SOMA as Bar Crudo and Bocadillos, there are lots of other notable restaurants.

The difficulties noted in SOMA is why I recommend the Mission. From 3rd and Market jump on Bart at Market and Montgomery and go 3 stops to Mission and 16th. Plenty of choices within a short stroll.

in that area suggest coco 500 (but a bit noisy not charming more trendy, excellent food)

            and second previous suggestions:
oola one of my perennial faves (but dont bother with dessert) has an 'urban charm'
flytrap (maybe not trendy enough, classic and solid and charming - live piano, rose petals on the table)

i havent been the each of these for a while but in the realm of charming SoMa restaurants I have loved previously you might also consider including these among your considerations:
            South Park Cafe
            and
            Fringale

I would pick The 5th Floor @ 4th and Market. After dinner you can take a short walk and go up Powell St to The Gold Rush and have a few drinks and listen to some Ol' Timey Music.

If you're up for a cab ride, go to Luella. I just posted a review of our dinner there last night.

SOMA Azie, Lulu, Oola, Fly Trap, Boulevard (one of the best restarurants in the city), Ame (upscale), Town Hall. That's just a few, there are many more.

All restaurants in San Francisco require shirts. I'm not sure that any require ties.

Thanks. Out all of the restaurants though, which do you recommend most?
