Best Birthday Cake

Does anyone have a suggestions for birthday cakes?
I like Magnolia and Buttercup, but would like to try something new.
The Cupcake Cafe's cakes are beautiful but a bit too buttery for me.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Amy's Bread and Black Hound have both proven reliable to me on many occasions.

I'm not sure how many people you're planning to serve or how formal your birthday party will be but a couple of years back I picked out four mini cakes at Black Hound for my mother's birthday. There were only four of us and we loved having our own little cake sampling party.

Two Little Red Hens is really good. And Cakeman Raven in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn, has the best red velvet cake in NYC. We had a big one made for my mother's 80th birthday and it was a huge hit.

I've been meaning to make a trip to Ft. Green for a while now. I've heard he frequently runs out of slices. Is this true?

The last thing I need is an entire Red Velvet cake hanging around my house...

        Billy's. I like Amy's too.

My favorite is at William greenbergs on Madison and 82 or 83rd. They have their classic chocolate cake. It is yellow cske with a delicious chocolate icing-very fudgy.
