Relatives from Australia
I have realtives coming from Australia to visit us in Toronto. I want to show them a good time and good food. I thought about a tasting menu. I have been to Perigee and I loved it. Any other recommendations? Or how about taking them to the Drake or the Gladstone Hotel? We have not been there? is the food good? I am sure that we will go to Niagara Falls. Any recommendations?
Thanking you in advance.
If you love your relatives and want them to say nice things about Canada when they go home, do not eat in Niagara Falls. By all means, go to the Falls (I love taking visitors there for the first time; living nearby, it's easy to be jaded, but the Falls themselves are truly magnificent), but plan to eat elsewhere. If you are in Niagara-on-the-Lake, there are lots of good choices (Stone Road Grille, Riverbend, Peller, Terroir la Cachette, Charles Inn, Epicurean, Tony de Luca). If you want to stay within 10 minutes of the QEW between Toronto and NF, try Liv or Niagara Culinary Institute (both right at the Glendale exit); Treadwell and Olson Foods & Bakery in Port Dalhousie (Anna Olson's show, Sugar, is broadcast in Australia, and she now has tables at her shop, making it a nice lunch spot); On the Twenty or Cafe Zooma Zooma in Jordan Village; or Peninsula Ridge in Beamsville. Zest in Fonthill would take you away from the QEW corridor, but that's not a bad thing.
No reason to eat at the Drake or Gladstone. Locals can enjoy a solid breakfast/brunch/lunch at either, but in my opinion, they aren't special enough to recommend to vistors.
That being said, The Drake can be a very interesting BAR as they attract a wide mix of people. Worth investigating their calendar of events for that weekend.
What kind of food or resto experiences are you after?
