Can someone give me some ideas for a good restaurant near MSG long a real culinary wasteland?
Budget is not a problem. Have Streisand tickets in early October.

Best bet is probably the restaurants in the 8th Ave/23rd street area of chelsea. One subway stop or a short walk if its nice out. Used to live by MSG and spent a lot of time eating in chelsea.

Rocking Horse, Gascogne, Biltmore, etc. Crispo is a little further but still walkable.

You could also venture into Hell's Kitchen on 9th Ave going north where there are loads of restaurants.

Try Tracks. It's inside Penn Station by the LIRR ticket windows. What it lacks in atmosphere it more than makes up in tasty seafood. However, if atmosphere is your thing along with good food then I second Keen's.

Pre-MSG, I always go to Keens. The oysters rockerfeller and the "Mutton" chop are safe bets. Keep it simple. Also, I prefer the little lounge area by the fire. It is a little more cozy.

Likewise. I have Rangers season tix, and Keens is the only place I go. I've given up on all of the other options.

At Keens, I always sit in the pub room, where you can order off of the regular menu or off of the more casual pub menu.

The Zipper Factory Tavern on 37th and 9th does happy hour all night long and has a super eclectic menu. It will please anyone in your party (my Fiance and I can both eat there and be super happy) plus it is two floors so there is always room.
