mojitos

i've checked the archives, and have made note of several places to check out when my wife and i visit Manhattan in a couple of weeks. my wife and i really enjoy mojitos, and stumbled across a place on West Broadway, not far from the SoHo Grand Hotel, IIRC. i think they have a small sign in their window indicating they make ``great'' or ``the best'' mojitos.

we normally wouldn't go to a place that self-applies one of those superlatives to their public face. but it was about to rain, and we needed to take cover.

anyway, the mojitos were actually pretty damn good. and they used Don Q brand rum, which altough it's not a ``premium rum'' (as far as i know), i really like the taste of this rum. when i can find it here in DC, i use it to make mojitos at home.

at any rate, if anyone can help me out with the name of that place, i'll offer it up as a recommendation for a great mojito.

      yes, Ideya is it! thanks.

i recall glancing at the menu, but don't remember too much about it. have any chowhounds eaten there?

    2. A quick Google search turned up Soho 323 as a possibility.

      1. If you and your wife wanna hang in the cool part of town hit up Esperanto on Avenue C @ 9th street. Great Mojitos tapas atmosphere and crowd hopefully its still nice enough for you guys to utilize the outdoor seating.

        1. I don't drink, but my husband had what he said were excellent mojitos at Pampano, and the modern Mexican cuisine was delicious.

          1. paladar has great mojitos. the food is so-so, but they have surprisingly good french fries.

            1. The best mojitos according to my boyfriend are at Bar 89 (89 mercer street). I think they are great also, but I discovered the Caipirinha and I love that drink!! Bar 89 makes the best drinks in the city.

wow, that's quite a claim! i will definitely check that place out. a few friends have mentioned that Milk & Honey had the best drinks in the city. but (1) aside from mojitos i don't really like mixed drinks---i'm more of a scotch/bourbon/vodka straight up kind of guy and (2) M&H seems to be a members-only type place.

They also have the greatest restrooms, but I won't say why. I'll leave it for you to discover................

              2. I agree that Bar 89 has the best drinks in the city! They make the best Greygoose martini's, and they are huge! I also think that their food is great. However, The Mercer Kitchen has a great Gold Mojito! Go downstairs, better atmosphere.

                  1. Lucy Latin Kitchen on 19th St. makes good Mojitos. They're not the best, but for $16 you get a regular one, a mango one, and a watermelon one. The fruit ones are a bit sweet though, good to ask for them less sweet. At $5.33 each, it's a steal.
