mojitos
i've checked the archives, and have made note of several places to check out when my wife and i visit Manhattan in a couple of weeks. my wife and i really enjoy mojitos, and stumbled across a place on West Broadway, not far from the SoHo Grand Hotel, IIRC. i think they have a small sign in their window indicating they make ``great'' or ``the best'' mojitos.
we normally wouldn't go to a place that self-applies one of those superlatives to their public face. but it was about to rain, and we needed to take cover.
anyway, the mojitos were actually pretty damn good. and they used Don Q brand rum, which altough it's not a ``premium rum'' (as far as i know), i really like the taste of this rum. when i can find it here in DC, i use it to make mojitos at home.
at any rate, if anyone can help me out with the name of that place, i'll offer it up as a recommendation for a great mojito.

The best mojitos according to my boyfriend are at Bar 89 (89 mercer street). I think they are great also, but I discovered the Caipirinha and I love that drink!! Bar 89 makes the best drinks in the city.

wow, that's quite a claim! i will definitely check that place out. a few friends have mentioned that Milk & Honey had the best drinks in the city. but (1) aside from mojitos i don't really like mixed drinks---i'm more of a scotch/bourbon/vodka straight up kind of guy and (2) M&H seems to be a members-only type place.

I don't drink, but my husband had what he said were excellent mojitos at Pampano, and the modern Mexican cuisine was delicious.
