Drinks at Tavern on the Green, then where to for dinner?

Be in NYC in December and meeting some friends for drinks at TOG, then they are off to a company function. We have no interest in eating there, so where is a good French/Italian/Mediterranean place within walking distance? Also, we're staying at the Lucerne on UWS. Thanks!

Since you're staying at the Lucerne, you might want to try Nice Matin, right downstairs, even if not for this particular meal. Many enthusiastic reviews of the four-napkin burger. I like their brunch.
