Latest bargains from 99¢ Only, Highland Park

At the Highland Park store on York Blvd., a few bottles of Main Road Red from Long Island, of all places. Boy, New York wine has come a LOOOONG way since last time I tasted! Dry and spicy, made me glad I was having spaghetti for supper. If they don't get any more this alert might do you no good, as I intend to be at their doors when they open tomorrow... but the big store on Wilshire may have it.

Also cans of whole baby beets @ 2/99¢ - these are really good additions to a green salad, especially with slices of egg. You can use the same slicer on the beets...

It's highly variable in quality, though. I tried a bottle of the Main Road Red last week. Took a sip and poured the rest down the drain.

I decided it was worth stepping up for the Charles Shaw. :-)

I bought two cases of the Main Road red at the Wilshire store a few months ago. Went back last week and it was all gone. In fact, there was no red wine of any sort.

Thanks for the tip; those Main Road Reds have been hanging around all three of my local 99cent stores for a while. I've been badly burned by other Long Island reds so I didn't take the $1 chance.

If you stick with 'primal' ingredients this chain has some very good buys.
