Angon recently gone downhill

I had noticed the quality of the food at Angon started to waver at the beginning of the year (I think this was when Mina left?), but even on a bad night, the food was still way better than average. But since sometime last month, the food has been completely different.

I tried both the palak paneer and the dal fry recently, and it was as if I was at a different restaurant. The spinach in the palak paneer used to always taste very fresh with a light consistency -- now, the spinach tastes like it's coming from a can or frozen and has a thicker consistency (more in line with your typical indian restaurant). And the dal fry is completely different -- if you've ever had it, you know the way Angon did it was unique and just utterly amazing - it had a thick consistency unlike your run of the mill dal. Now, it's more like a typical split lentil dish that would fit in at any of the other restaurants on the street.

What happened? Did they change cooks again? I really miss the old food, and while the new stuff certainly isn't *bad*, it's just nowhere near what it used to be.

    Unfortunately, I have to agree with you.
    I was there a few weeks ago and the food was very oily and just "off".
    It must be a new chef. That is the only explanation.

      i was there about three weeks ago and tho i didn't love everything as much as i used to, the two dishes that i thought were still delicious were in fact the dal fry and the palak paneer. the spinach was definitely fresh and the dal fry was thick and addicitve. weird.
