  1. Hey, Angelina,

Cafe Boulud is on 76th, b/t 5th & Madison (closer to Madison). It may be Daniel Boulud's 2nd tier restaurant, but the cuisine is absolutely first rate. Service is pleasant and polished. The contemporary decor is attractive, and the overall ambiance is wonderful.

If you want something less expensive, Bandol Bistro, on 78th, b/t Lex & 3rd, is a pleasant French bistro with nicely prepared food.

    Enjoy and Bon Appetit!

Cafe Boulud is probably one of our favorite places!! Also, RGR, I wanted to let you know, we finally dined at Eleven Madison Park last week upon your recommendation on a prior post. I must say, WOW!! We were so completely happy with this choice, so please keep in mind I always follow through with your choices! Thanks again! Have a nice weekend!

So glad to hear you loved Eleven Madison though I would have been shocked if you didn't. Don't know if you saw his post on the mid-Atlantic board, but our friend seal also had dinner there a couple of weeks ago and raved about it.

Another good option to add to your not far from Lenox Hill list: Atlantic Grill, on 3rd Av., b/t 76th & 77th Sts.

        Enjoy!

    2. Due, for Italian, on 3rd b/79th & 80th. A neighborhood place, I go for their salads and pastas. My favorites are the insalata bianca: endive, artichokes, hearts of palm & parmigiana and the rigatoni with eggplant & ricotta.

Another option for Italian is Il Riccio, 79th b/Lexington & 3rd. I like Due better, but Il Riccio is a little more subdued and the food is good.

      1. Orsay Restaurant on 75th and Lexington. The new chef has really turned the place around. The oysters and tartars are excellent as is the hanger steak & fries. Really everything is pretty good if not a touch pricey. The deck is one of the more pleasant places to eat on the UES.

        1. Between 73 and 74th on Lex is Payard Patissere (sp?).. Food matches the pastries.(I eat there with my doctor -:) If you want a good milkshake go to Soup Burg just across Lex from the hospital. Good take out is available at Butterfield Market(Lex between 76 and 77) or William Poll(Lex between 76 and 75 , I think.. both expensive but worth it.)

For casual there's Annies over on Third between 79 and 78.... good if you have a sudden yen for pancakes, etc.
(Obviously I've been catering a patient in LH -:)

William Poll is much better (and more expensive) than Butterfield, whose prepared foods are not all that flavorful. Butterfield does have tasty cookies-by-the-pound though.

          2. PS Butterfield is between 78 and 77.

            1. Thank you all! I have written down all the recs...and I will post with the results!

              Angelina :)
