Mexican Riviera Lunch Recs?

Over the Christmas holidays we're on yet another cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Because of the ship's schedule we typically have time only for lunch and street food on shore. We've got our favorite street vendors and beachfront restaurants with grilled whole fish where we're the only non-locals. What can you Hounds recommend for these cities, where we're looking for vendors and other stuff off the beaten path. It goes without saying that places like Senior Frog, any of the rock-n-roll chains and other US chains are to be avoided like the plague.

We'll be in Cabo, Acapulco, Zihuatanejo, Vallarta, Mazatlan and La Paz. We like to find a local tortilleria for fresh corns, and the best local mercados are wonderful but difficult to find except in Mazatlan. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. Just started planning a trip out to Cabo for Thanksgiving... I'll report on places we try there when we get back.

Sorry... we decided on Canada instead.

Out of the frying pan into the icebox? ;-)

    2. I can't help you with Mazatlan, we ended up there over night once in the tourist district and couldn't find a decent meal other then breakfast.

Here is a link to my recommendation for La Pazta in La Paz (the name is a bit cheesy, but the restaurant isn't, though I think they may have fondue)
