Food carts near MOMA?

efdee Sep 8, 2006 07:20 PM

If the weather is nice, I'd like to get food from a cart and eat outside. Are there any decent food carts near MOMA? TIA

I haven't been in awhile, but there are a few. There's an okay cart that sells empenadas across the street. The Hallo Berlin cart which sells German wurst is a block downtown on Fifth Avenue, I believe. I think there's a crepe cart also across the street? Enjoy!

The crepe guy is also the empanada guy. Had both the beef and chicken empanadas the other day. Reminded me of hot pockets, except that hot pockets taste better. The chicken over rice guy next to the empanada cart does the best chicken/lamb over rice in the area.

I was there Saturday and the carts may be different on the weekend. Didn't see either the empanada/crepe guy or Hallo Berlin but did end up with delicious gyro over rice plate from a cart on the south side of 53rd, just west of 6th. Next time I will try the chicken/lamb over rice on the east side of 6th Ave, if it's there. Thanks, all.

The Vietnamese fruit & shake guy on the south side of 53rd just east of 6th is the sweetest guy and he makes great fruit salads with a "good count."

I find the empanadas from the crepe guy not bad, though maybe not to write home about. Besides Hallo Berlin, there's a Daisy Mae's cart on the south side of 55th, just west of 6th. On the same block, maybe for one more week, is great gelato in front of Osteria del Circo.
