  1. I've often thought a great band name would be Soup on a Stick.

    1. LOL! Thanks!! We were just dicussing Spaghetti on a Stick on the L.A. Board... But that is a perfect example as to why U Tube Rulz... well, that and LonelyGirl15... ;)

      1. I have just one thing to say about the giant corn dog - but I can't say it here.

        1. You know, and I think it was in China but I could be wrong, I saw something on TV the other day where people put this live baby octopus on skewers, rolled it up, dipped it in some sauces and ate the whole thing in one bite.

          That's quite possibly the worst food-on-a-stick . . . EVER! Give me a deep-fried Snickers bar anyday!

Yes, it was alive! It was on one of those Discovery Channel Weird Foods or something!

            1. There's a place in Key West that makes Key Lime Pies, cuts them into slices, puts them on sticks, dips them in chocolate, then freeze them.

              Oh, and they ship worldwide.

There's a place in Brooklyn that does that too. They're just not very good....

                1. re: erikka

Probably because they don't use Key Limes.

              2. My favorite was at the Del Mar Fair in San Diego...BBQ pork chop on a stick. This is also where I came across "Chicken Charlies, home of Deep Fried Avocado." May I just say "ew!"

The avocado actually sounds kind of good. I imagine it would get rather creamy.

                  1. re: lvecch

It was melty and flavorless; the batter and ranch dip was the only tasty part...and it cost $8....

They also did olives, cauliflower, broccoli on a stick...with equally tasteless results...

I always look forward to a new "Fair Food" but this year was disappointing....

In a parallel vein, thinking it *must* have been developed at a State Fair..the local Del Taco has a "Maple flavored breakfast sausage, wrapped in a tortilla, dipped in french toast batter and fried" for $1.49

                    1. re: Cathy

Now that sounds disgusting, but not worse than my live octopus.

                      1. re: TexasToast

Oh, the baby octopus sounded good to me..really.

                2. I've had grilled pork-chop on a stick at Wurstfest in New Braunfels....it was delicious.

I feel like I've had a lot of good food on a stick in New Braunfels

                    1. re: tlegray

Me too and I've been trying to figure out their recipe for years! Any ideas?

                    2. Aligator on a stick at the French Market in New Orleans. The sign always makes me smile.

Aligator is NOT that bad (so long as it's cooked). I know they say this about everything, but it really DOES taste like chicken!

                        1. re: TexasToast

Don't get me wrong - I like Aligator - just think that its a funny sign. And I think that it tastes like 'Gator.

                      2. I love the new trend in desserts on a stick, not the fried monsters at county fairs but the ultra delicious variety , light on the calories, big on taste popping up in gourmet and specialty foods served for on the go :)

I always thought the reasoning for putting food on sticks was because you'd be touching farm animals and it was more "sanitary" that way--then it just got out of control and people started deep frying everything and putting it on a stick.

I don't feel like I can get away with stick food anywhere BUT a State Fair.

                          1. re: erikka

The fondue industry made a living out of food on a stick. And it's made a come-back with all these chocolate fountain things!

                            1. re: erikka

I thought it was because you'd be walking around. . .

That said, the only foods I really get eat on sticks are corn dogs and grilled shrimp, and the shrimp just annoys me bc I have to pull them off anyway. :-P

                          2. wisconsin state fair - deep fried or regular dill pickles on a stick, they are a good size too. they also have rockin deep fried cheese on a stick. yum yum.
