Where to get a Patty Melt?

had a craving out of the blue. Where can I get a juicy and greasy Patty Melt? Preferably in DC or NOVA. Decor is not important.

I got a good one at Silver Diner in Rockville, presumably it's on the menu at their many NOVA locations.

It's been a while since I had one of these, but I would second tubman's rec for the Silver Diner patty melt.

Jimmy T's downtown serves a good patty melt.

Jimmy T's is downtown. Relative to Rockville, that is.

Update: Pete's Grill next to Library of Congress, and the Tune Inn.

NoVA: Hamburger Hamlet in Crystal City.

I never need an excuse to hit the Tune Inn (even though their onion rings suck)

I'm sure they'd make you one at Bob & Edith's on Columbia Pike. BTW, what's the difference between a patty melt and a cheeseburger?

            The bread.

The former comes on rye (toasted or grilled usually); the latter on a bun of some sort.

              And grilled onions, yum!

They usually come with Thousand Island dressing, although a few I've had on the west coast come on sourdough.

Jay - it's sort of a koan, the better-ish question would be 'who?' or maybe even 'when?'

You can get a respectable one at Metro 29 Diner in Arlington.

The National Democratic Club does a decent one but they call it the Wilson Burger.

Named after Rep. Charles Wilson of California not Texas Charlie Wilson of "Charlie Wilson's War" fame.

Unfortunately you have to be a member, or a guest of a member, to get in.

Double-T Diner in Frederick has a good one, although I prefer their cheeseburger club sandwich over the patty melt.

Most of the non-fast-food burger chains have this. Cheeburger Cheeburger makes a decent one (good rye) and I think Red Robin has one as well.
I've yet to see a diner that doesn't have this on the menu.
