I'd call Serra in Studio city and
Moonlight Sako's Mediterranean
6736 Corbin Avenue
Reseda, CA 91335
Smells great but I can never figure out when they're open.
A more complete list at
I can't vouch for the accuracy or quality of any of their rec's or these either
you can also take the opportunity locally to try other kinds of dumplings you might like - like the Korean ManDu place -
MAN DU CHON
450 S WESTERN AVE
Unfortunately, the large Armenian population means that even the few Turkish restaurants we have in LA tend to call themselves "Middle Eastern" or "Mediterranean".
There is a Turkish place (forget the name) in the food court of Westside Pavilion (of all places!), you might start there. It's not bad at all, and it's definitely better than its location suggests it should be.
There is a supper club in Studio City called Serra's which advertises Turkish cuisine, but I've never seen it actually function as a restaurant -- usually when I pass it it's either closed or there are bouncers out front. Never been, though.
re: Das Ubergeek
It is called Sofra in the Westside Pavilion.
Funny, I live within a short walk of Serra's, and like your reaction, have not eaten there due to the bouncer look of the place, and what I hear to be an at least $10, maybe $20 cover charge - not sure if, when or under what circumstances, but it has always provided more turn-off than desired. I know it is closed at least Monday and Tuesday.
