Best fish market in SF for buying live dungeness crab

Can anyone recommend a good fish market for live Dungeness crab in the city of San Francisco?

  1. Wang Fat in the Mission. They have GIANT Canadian crabs - sometimes over 3lbs...

I have to kindly disagree with the Wang Fat recommendation. Much of their fish tastes "off" and the live shellfish/crusteceans are so jam packed into tanks that sufficent water can't circulate to provide them all with fresh water.

I would head a couple of blocks further down Mission to Sun Fat (at 23rd). Very talented fishmongers.

Outside of the Mission, Bryan's in Laurel Heights and Ferry Plaza Seafood in the Ferry Building are both very good sources (with a nod to Bryan's for better prices).

    2. for dungenous crab, one of my sources would be 9th and clement fish market. the owners are relatives of one of the largest seafood distributors in the bay so there stuff is very fresh and cheap. the place is a small market and they dont really overstock their crabs, just enough to last a day or two and they replenish frequently.
