slighty crispy on the outside, super chewy on the inside. the best i've had was at stella pastry cafe in san francisco.

any comparable amaretto cookies in LA? most are not chewy enough, and sometimes a bit dry.

Just a spelling correction in case you're going to search online, it's Amaretto di Saronno.

Monte Carlo Deli in Burbank has the best, super chewiest interiors with the slightly dry/crispy/crackly exteriors.

Be careful as they age gracelessly...

I went to go eat one two days after I'd bought it, and figuring it would be hard as a rock, I toonked it in my iced coffee, popped it in my mouth, and started to chew.

It turned into glue instantly upon mastication. I could not get it off my teeth, so my jaw was stuck most of the way shut.

There I was, blundering around the kitchen going, "MMMMMMMMMMMMF! MMMMMF MMMMF MMMMMMMMMMMMF!", which caused Jackie (my little 20-pound Corgi mix) to go absolutely insane -- running around, trying to climb up into my arms, licking my legs, and barking incessantly.

In my attempts to avoid stepping on Jackie, I knocked over my iced coffee and also, Providentially, knocked the tea towel off the rack right onto the spill.

You see where this is going: I stepped on the towel, slipped, and went backwards, landing smack on my tailbone and seeing stars.

Jackie, not to be outdone, decided to mount my leg and start dry-humping it.

There I was on the floor, still slightly woozy, my jaw still glued shut by a biscuit, iced coffee with milk starting to creep through my clothing, with a dog wildly displaying her dominance (or passion) on my leg, and screaming, "GMMMMT MMF MMM, YMMM STMMMPMMMD MMMMT!"

That was not a good day for personal dignity... but the amaretto was really, really tasty.
