ISO Great apple pie
Hey fellow 'hounders,
Can anyone recommend a couple of places that have some great apple pie? I want to get one for a friend of mine who has been obsessing over a gread apple pie. Any location would do, and if you happen to know how much would be great. Thanks a lot!

it's the "little pie company" and they have locations on 14th st (btwn 9th and 10th ave), hell's kitchen and grand central somewhere. the pie of theirs that's great is a sour cream apple pie, with thin slices of apple, layered with sour cream, with a cinnamon walnut crumble topping. they also have traditional apple pie, but i can't comment on it.
oh, and perfectly tangy key lime pie.

Does anyone else dislike Little Pie's crusts? Heavy and tough and too thick for the size of their pies. (I swear I think they do it to reduce the filling to crust ratio.)
I would love to find a source for some delicious apple pies (though I have found good tarte tatin and apple crumbles). The best I've tried are at some of the farm stands far out on Long Island. The lack of good local pie has driven me to bake my own.

I wouldn't say I dislike LPC's crusts, but to your point - when I need my sour cream/apple/walnut pie fix, I've found that I much prefer getting two slices from a regular pie rather than a whole small pie because of the better filling-to-crust ratio of the slices.

They used to sell a good one at Balduccis. Sour cream, apple crumb. Haven't tried that in a while,but was a favorite when I was younger. Just trying to stay away from sugar these days.
