Order-and-Sit-Down Restaurant Recommendations?

Where can I drop in for good, quick, healthy food without the bother of reservations, waiters and waiting, fumbling with menus and pricier entrees? My understanding is that TenderGreens is one... any others?? (preferably in the Pasadena area.. we don't even have a decent Whole Foods around these parts)

Thank you!

  1. What's wrong with the Whole Foods on Foothill? btw, they're building a new one on Arroyo Parkway.
Along those lines, Bristol Farms has a cafe.
I find that at most places in Pasadena, you can get a table without a reservation, so just decide what you'd like to eat and go there. At the Pasadena Sandwich Co. you can opt for the self-serve side where you order at the window and there's plenty of seating, plus you still get great service from some very friendly people. The sandwiches are a little too large for me, though. They're across the street from Bed Bath Beyond.

      Also, Famima. No waiters there.

maybe I'm spoiled by the Whole Foods in Palo Alto (what a BAKERY!!! so beautiful!) but i'm none too impressed by the WF on Foothill. i don't know... the times I've been there, the produce seemed a little tired and the selection was limited (again, big hole in the bakery department) and yes, i am eagerly awaiting the new one on Arroyo...

      2. In Pasadena, I like Europane for sandwiches at lunchtime (50 E Colorado Blvd # 107, Pasadena, 91106). Also, Aux Delices in Old Town Pasadena has yummy sandwiches and pizzas (16 West Colorado Boulevard Pasadena, CA 91105).

Nearby in Eagle Rock, you should consider Auntie Em's for more sandwiches and salads (4616 Eagle Rock Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90041) or Senor Fish for marginally-healthy fish tacos (4803 Eagle Rock Blvd.).

The stretch of Colorado a few blocks east of Lake has several order and sit places. In addition to Europane, mentioned above, there's Lovebirds Cafe, and Pita Pita.

There's a Sharky's at Cordova & Lake as well. I know it's a chain, but they have healthy options, too. This South Lake area has a number of fast food options in case you're interested.

        2. what about wild oats?

          1. I may get flamed for this, but KooKooRoo is pretty good for this type of thing. Quick, healthy (if you order right), no waiters and I like the food. Go for the side of yam.
