Three Days of Food in NYC
We just got back from three heavenly days in NYC, spent primarily eating. Given all the great info that I have gleamed from this board, I thought I would add my summary.
1) Cafe Boulud- What a charming, wonderful setting, much more intimate than Daniel, and the food equal if not slightly better. Wondrous duck and lamb, and one of the best terrine of fois gras ever encountered. Sesserts luscious and over the top.
2) Shun Lee Palace- I was ready to dislike this place- somewhat stuffy, formal, and seemed to be populated by lots of German tourists. I was pleasantly surprised. The soup dumplings exquisite, and the Bejing duck, while not classic, certainly above good.
3) Blue Ribbon- The best food of the trip. I was left speechless by some of the creations of the sushi chefs, accompanied by seaweed salads, and the most incredible flying fish sashimi. Never has yellowtail melted in my mouth.
4) Nobu 57- We walked out. We were seated in a afterthought table in a corner away from everything. We requested a change, which was granted. One minute later, a sous maitre d' came by, said "we need this table. We will move you back to your old table" No nicities, nothing. We left.
We had looked forwar to eating at Nobu, and this experience was so at odds with the awesome courtesy shown everywhere else. We may be a couple of physicians from Boston, and not Britney or Kfed, but how unfortunate that our last attempt at a meal in your great city has to turn out like this.

Did you have a res at Nobu?

We did indeed, with a message to them that it was our 9th aniversary, which makes it even more difficult to understand.

I've never been to either Nobus. Shame on them for treating you so shabbily. You did the right thing by leaving. Fortunately, your other experiences showed that this was an aberation. Cafe Boulud is one of our favorites. Glad to hear you loved it. So, where did you end up going after you left Nobu?

Yay, I love it when people post their food "logs" like this, thanks!

We were in the mood for sushi, and we found the Blue Ribbon, so we went there around 11 pm.
I can't believe we are the only people this has happened to. The concierge at our hotel had made this reservation at our request, and was the one to suggest Blue Ribbon. She said that they have not reserved at Nobu 57 for that reason, unless their guest asks to go there.
