Please help me find this restaurant?

A friend was telling us about a little known Italian restaurant on Melrose, which is according to him "One of LA's best secrets". It is called Buca Di Palermo, but there is nothing identifying the restaurant on the outside other than an old faded Pizza sign. The restaurant consists of about 4-5 small tables with two seatings a night. All the food is cooked by someone called "Mama", and reservations are an absolute must. I'm not sure if this is an elaborate hoax, since Google, Citysearch and even the ever-reliable Chowhound have not revealed a single clue. Any ideas?

Please disregard, I found it. He was referring to La Buca.

Maybe just La Buca on Melrose? 5210 1/2 Melrose.
Search this site and you will find many raves.

Are you sure you're not thinking of La Buca, which is on Melrose, rather small, and has food cooked by Mama Buca?

I drive past it everyday - well used to. It appears that it has closed. I could be wrong, but the sign is gone and it looks empty. Hope I am. I have not had a chance to check it out yet.

it's not closed - they are expanding to the space next door. supposedly they will be able to seat around 70 after the expansion. i just hope the quality doesn't go down. and that they won't get rid of the free corkage!!

Also try the less formal, very tasty Antequera de Oaxaca next door for brekfast, lunch or early dinner. Great moles & delicious hot chocolate.
