Hey Chowhounders,
Would anyone recommend a good restaurant for a birthday lunch for my niece's 21st birthday? She's a foodie so, cuisine doesn't matter, and budget restrictions would be under $50pp. Thanks in advance!

If ALTO still has the pre fixe lunch this could be special and in your budget.

Make sure you get the polenta with mushrooms and the basic spaghetti and tomato and basil for starters.

The $24.07 lunch prix-fixe at Alto ended last Friday. It was an extension until just before Labor Day of the Restaurant Week menu.

There are quite a few upscale restaurants that have well-priced lunch prix-fixes year round, which would enable you to stay within your budget, and which are fitting for a special celebration. Three of my favorites are: Fleur de Sel ($25), Eleven Madison Park ($32), and Devi ($24.07).

Don't know what area you are looking for, but I was very impressed with the $25 prix fix at Telepan, on 69th, between CPW and Columbus.

I'm pretty much open to any location.

The Bento Box lunches at Asiate are fabuolus tasting portions, a great deal and the view is to die for - especially for out of towners. Sleek, modern setting.
