Meils (Stockton NJ)

Meils is a great place for a quiet breakfast (on the weekdays, weekends are packed) or a nice dinner without your usual standard menu choices.

We've been having alot of breakfasts there lately, and I love their dried cherry scones. A bit dry, but a little butter and jam will take care of that. They also make excellent hot cocoa, with home-made marshmallows.

They feature several types of French Toast, including standard, croissant, and almond-croissant, as well as many interesting omelettes. Eggs are very fresh and tasty, and the ingredients always top quality. I had a pear-chutney-and-cheddar omelette, which was a bit overwhelmed by too much chutney (how much can one mortal eat?!?) and balanced with a sharp, tangy white cheddar.

You can choose several side options with your egg dishes, including applesauce (homemade with lots of cinnamon - yummy) sliced tomatos, or fruit, and a choice of homemade breads and pastries. They make excellent scones, homemade biscuits, croissants, as well as more traditional sliced breads.

Meils also features "odd" but tasty things such as their fabulous Onion-Parsley cakes, although they claim their potato pancakes are more commonly enjoyed, these fried items served with syrup are excellent.

Fresh squeezed Orange Juice, or some minted iced tea, rounds out an excellent selection of breakfast / brunch items.

We've only had dinner there once, which tempted us to order, if i remember correctly, a chicken dumplings (or was it pot pie) type dish and a great turkey dinner with the trimmings (choices of starch, vegetables, and ultra-sugary cranberry sauce) but featuring excellent, moist turkey. They also feature fresh fish and meat dishes, I have to really look at their dinner menu again before I post more.

Meils is open 7 days a week for an excellent casual dining experience.
