ALAMEDA SWAPMEET - WHERE TO EAT?
Going to the swapmeet, where is the best food and drink (aguas frescas)? Thanks!
No, Alameda is one of the biggest streets in downtown L.A., running from downtown nearly to the harbor. The Swapmeet is a large, Mexican market/shopping center at around 45th St.
As for food, I've always been partial to the big place with the big window over the grill and the steamtables. If you're facing the stage where they sometimes have Latino rap karaoke contests, it's to the left. I can't recall its name. It has an excellent salsa and condiments bar. I particularly like their carnitas. Their gorditas are very tasty, but quite greasy. They advertise something called "Sopa Criminal" which intrigues me, but I've always been there on hot days and haven't felt much like sopa anything.
