There's a spectacular rum cake that we get at the Dickens Faire. Oops, I've lost the name...

There's always sourdough bread, if you can figure out how to transport it.

Lulu's meyer lemon and fig balsamic vinegar.

Star of Siam Thai Oil, made in SSF. We get it at Williams-Sonoma.

and the stuff the other poster said -- Especially Sharffenberger (if you like dark chocolate).

Caitlin linked to a thread where I asked about gift baskets a couple years ago. People still discuss those baskets -- they were really fun.

Another local gift that I tend to give is Hangar One Vodka.

I would add to that something I am planning to give this year: Happy Quail Farms (Ferry Plaza FM on Saturdays, Marin on Sundays) makes a couple of wonderful dried chile spices -- I am currently using the smoked pimento chile on all kinds of things, and it is delicious.

A friend and I just put together some gift baskets of local foods that she sent to Kansas. Her blog post is linked below with the full list of what we included.

Two things I often request that family visiting from the Bay Area bring are Frog Hollow Farm apricot and peach preserves and Kozlowski Farm black raspberry vinegar; they're both just excellent, and can only be bought in the Bay Area or via mail order.

Last year I got hooked on Anna's cookies because we were sent some by a vendor here at work. They used to be in the Mission but they've moved to San Mateo. The chocolate covered ones are just incredible.
