A sad goodbye to Figs in Wellesley-still time for one more meal

  • 3

Went to Figs in Wellesley for the advertised last night. Seems all the papers didn't get signed, so beginning next TUesday they will reopen for dinner only for a couple of weeks.
Many regular patrons there to say tearful goodbyes to all the great staff there- Donna, the manager, who had her little daughter there for the celebration, Gochka, George and many other waitstaff who have been there almost from the beginning in 1995.Lots of hugging and kissing going on in that place last night.Best of all a last taste of the very delicious, very consistent food. Husb and I ordered our favorites. Fried calamari RI style- hot and crispy and delicious with bits of hot peppers. Pappardelle parmesan- silky bands of pasta with parmesan, topped with veal ragu and brocolli rabe and a very classic and delicious old world bolognese- just the right spices with ground veal and a bit of cream. excellent margaritas and a delicious glass of Pellegrini unoaked chardonnay.
If you want a great meal with excellent service at a good price (total a app, 2 mains, 2 drinks- $55) get there in the next two weeks.
After that, according to the press, a new restaurant headed by Michael Schlow will be arriving.

    1. Here's an update on that Figs spot in Wellesley. Michael Schlow's Alta Strada is coming soon, as jobs postings went up in November, 2006: http://www.theswellesleyreport.com/
