Steamed crabs at Little Viet Garden?

Has anyone ever eaten the steamed crabs at Little Viet Garden (in Clarendon)? If so, how were they? How do they compare to other places in the area (in terms of both quality and price). Thanks!

  1. Go to the Quarterdeck. It's only a mile or so away and better quality crabs. The Vietnamese food at Little Viet Garden is fine; I don't understand why they do crabs as well unless they are trying to appeal to a wider audience. I have always thought that it is better to do one thing well.

Though Nam Viet does soft shells, and they're not done like a sandwich. I never have ordered them, so I don't know what they're like, but it's popular. To restate something I and others have said, Nam Viet does at least most of their menu extremely well.

I can't vouch for the quality of their crabs as I haven't had them...but as to why they do crabs as well? All the posts we get on here from DC and NoVA folks asking for crab advice, and we can really only point them to a few places (Quarterdeck, Capt Pell's) for crabs. The demand is definitely there, and I would think that nice outdoor eating area they have would be as good a decent place to pick 'em.

      2. The crabs are fine at Little Viet Garden. It's a mystery to me why more people don't order them there instead of jamming into the Quarterdeck or Captain Pell's. Another uncrowded Vietnamese place that does hard shell crabs well is Majestic Seafood Restaurant on Annandale Road, near the intersection with Route 50 in Falls Church. Call ahead to make sure they have them that day but they definitely cook them right.
