Special Dinner in the Hudson Valley Region

barbarasalisbury Aug 31, 2006 01:36 PM

My son is a student at Bard and we're looking for a place to take him to dinner for his 21st birthday in September. The CIA restaurants are already booked. Any recommendations for something fabulous within an hour's drive of Rhinebeck?

Have not eaten yet at Valley at the Garrison (Country club) but the reviews have been terrific. Also Harralds in Stormville was certainly fabulous but is now under new ownership.

I like Le Petite Bistro in Rhinebeck, La Batisse or Le Pavillon (nice country French) in Poughkeepsie.

Il Cenacolo is a tasty Tuscan in Newburgh that's definately worht the trip.

I know that when I take my college kids out for dinner when we visit at their schools, they don't want to spend a lot of time in the car driving around. If that's the case, try Le Petit Bistro or Gigi Trattoria, both nearby in Rhinebeck and both worthy of a special birthday dinner. If you want to take a little drive, try The Bear Cafe in Woodstock NY, less than an hour drive away and a chance to get away from campus and savor the views of the Catskills. Wonderful food, too.
