86: Rustic Kitchen Cambridge

  • 5

I am on a roll today!

I think they lasted two years in that cursed spot.

There is a new Rustic Kitchen opening in Park Sq... so maybe they just wanted to condense locations.

  1. It's too bad. In its brief heyday, Rustic was the best (only?) place for oysters in Porter Sq.

Interesting goings on inside the Porter Exchange mall too.

The Japanese bakery stand has moved around the corner to outside Blue Fin, and in its place are two mysterious small construction spaces, with floor-to-ceiling coverings. Possibly more restaurant space, possibly related to the art institute.

I'll be curious to see where the literal and proverbial dust settles...

    1. Yep, they're moving into the Radisson, the old 57 Steakhouse spot. That marks a lot of places in that Porter Square location in ten years. I remember Cottonwood, Metro, Guiseppe's, Rustic Kitchen. I never did get to either of the last two.

What a relief that something potentially decent is going into the 57 spot.

Cottonwood there is the place that had the jumbo shrimp stuffed variation on chilies rellenos, right? I've fond memories of that appetizer, although can't recall anything else they had. Wierd how some spots, even though they should be good ones, just seem to be cursed and can't keep a place for long.

I was thinking that too. Porter Sq. doesn't really have much in the way of upscale. Altho my one trip to Rustic Kitchen wasn't the greatest, and it's an awfully big place (maybe it should be cut in half). That said, Cottonwood seemed to do well the years it occupied that space.
