North Beach Eats

I'll be in San Francisco next month and would like some recommendations for places to eat in or near North Beach.
Thanks!

    Agree with Helmand.
OdF is ok. Good prices on some things.
    Think Bocadillos fails in price-performace.

Firenze by Night, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I am surprised I have never seen anyone else post about them. Best gnocchi and everything else.

Strong seconds/thirds for Bocadillos and l'Osteria del Forno. Seconds as well for The Helmand, Cafe Jacqueline's for dessert souffles in particular, and XOX truffles.

It doesn't get talked about a lot, but I really love the chicken at Il Pollaio. I have to say, I don't get all the support for L'Osteria del Forno, the room is charming, but I can't pick up what's so special about the food. Am I ordering incorrectly?

              second L'Osteria del Forno

add The Helmand for solid Afghan food

add XOX for a truffle treat

add Mama's for a great breakfast (cranberry orange walnut french toast is my pick)

add Myth Cafe for a very good value lunch with sprinklings of exotic.

add Jacqueline's if you need a desperately romatic evening and are happy about sharing little more than souffle with your love.

add Marios Bohemian Cigar bar for casual wine and grilled sandwiches. not fancy.

and there is a new ice cream or gelato place I cant remember the name of which has a wide selection for an icy treat. I favour the melon varieties.

                Oh it all depends on what you like, but here are a few I ALWAYS eat at when visiting (up to 10 times a year!);
                I'Fratelli's
                The Golden Spike
                Viva's
                Golden Boy
All great restaurants, I guess there all mostly Italian except for Golden Boy which is fast pizza by the slice, yes cheap, but awesome! Have fun and say hello to my sister!
