Organic Farm Produce

Kain Natayo Aug 30, 2006 09:47 PM

Does anyone know of any organic farms that offer "subscriptions" to their produce? I've heard of this in the Bay Area. I was wondering if there are farmers near Los Angeles that offer the same.

Yes, there are. I thought I had a link to a website on my list of favorites but can't find it at the moment. If you can get enough people in your area interested, they'll drop off at one of your homes as the designated dropoff location. I looked into it but decided not to pursue since I can't eat all that weekly produce by myself. There is also another service that drops off at individual homes, but it's kind of a more commercial service and I'm not certain that all their produce come from local farmers. Will post if I find the site.

Typically, these are called CSAs or community supported agriculture. Here's a link to some prior threads on this topic:

For what it's worth, I don't think anyone has reported on a convenient CSA program in the Los Angeles. However, there is excellent locally grown organic and sustainably farmed produce available at the many farmers markets in the Los Angeles area, most notably the Santa Monica markets on Wed. and Sat. and the Sunday Hollywood Farmer's Market.

I saw one advertised in the Los Feliz Ledger called The Farmer's Cart -- it says it's $29 or $39 dollars, I think per week or bi-weekly. Here's their website:

There was one advertised once on Daily Candy -- I think it may have been this one, tho I'm not sure ...
