A la Carte, a la Park, no more?

  • 8

I was just searching A La Park A La Carte, which used to be Labor Day weekend every year, but couldn't find anything. Is it no more? Or are my googling skills slipping?

Perhaps people decided the Ferry Building Market, or just the City itself, is enough of a "food festival" and they're available year-round?

  1. I remember looking for it last year and hearing that the organizer was looking for a new venue. When I googled it this link gave the most info, though it's not particularly helpful.

    1. I did a couple of searches. It looks like 2003 was the 19th Annual A La Carte A La Park (www.eventswestca.com/alcrest.html). The SF City Budget Analyst's report (www.sfgov.org/site/budanalyst_page.as...) implies that there were problems reguarding the fees for Golden Gate Park ("The Department approved and issued event permits for to Events West for the 2003 A la Carte a la Park, although Events West had not paid in full for the 2002 A la Carte a la Park. Events West owes the Recreation and Park Department a minimum of $62,000 in outstanding event fees from 2001 to 2003."). The link rosie7477 found (www.eventswestca.com/Zalchome.html) says "A La Carte, A La Park will no longer be produced by Events West. Thank you for your supportover the last 20 years".

So my guess is (and it is just a guess) is that A la Carte a la Park is not happening this year.

      1. I am bumping this because it is now 2 years later and I, too, was hoping this event was still going on. We were thinking of heading up to SF for Labor Day weekend and I remembered this from my 10 years of living in SF. I always loved spending the weekend sampling fine foods and wines and listening to the SF Opera.

Does anyone know if a different events company has taken this over? I've tried everything to find out if anything is going on over Labor Day, but to no avail.

You're combining two events, A La Carte A La Park and Opera in the Park in your memory. The first is no more, but Opera in the Park is still held. at the end of the summer each year.

Opera in the Park is usually the 2nd or 3rd Sunday in September, right?

Opera in the Park will be on Sunday, September 7, 2008.

Ah...I guess I always went to both and just remembered them as a single event! Thanks so much!

I do remember that we always brought a picnic basket to Opera in the Park (and a couple bottles of wine). Do people still do that? Are there any food vendors associated with this event?

There are grilled sausages that I did not care for. Coffee. I think it's best to try to bring your own, better quality, no waiting in line.
