A Voce? Lupa?? or Gramercy Tavern???

4 guys going (1 in 20's, 2 in early 30's, 1 late 40's)...I am taking out 3 work colleagues for lunch to thank them for a job well done over the past few months...Want it to be honkin' excellent and tasty, have excellent service but can not have it be the stuffy kind of excellent service...Wondering if anyone had any strong feelings regarding the above choices? Gramercy area is about as far north as I am willing to go...Probably won't be drinking wine (sigh) during the lunch...don't know if that makes any difference in opinions...

Any thoughts?

thanks to all! Lupa it is - though I am quite sure I will be giving a Voce a try very soon as well for another occasion...

        No brainer. Lupa.

Lupa is always Solid, but I find Carmellini's cooking at A Voce a bit higher in quality, and the room is more comfortable.

We've had dinner once at A Voce and thought the food was excellent. However, I'm not sure I agree with you about the room being comfortable because there is one truly negative aspect about dining there. When the space fills up, the noise level is horrendous and conversing in normal tones becomes nearly impossible. I have no idea how busy they get for lunch, but the noise issue could be a factor in the o.p.'s decision.

I almost mentioned the noise level at A Voce, but then remembered Lupa being loud as well, although perhaps it is quieter for lunch. I noticed A Voce finally has the outdoor furniture, and it would definitely be quieter out there.

I thought there was some furniture out there when we drove past A Voce Saturday night. But it was dark (around 11 p.m.) and kind of rainy, so I couldn't be sure. Finally is right! Now that the summer is pretty much over....

Hopefully we can squeak out a few al fresco meals before the weather turns!

I agree with the previous post. Lupa IS fabulous. I've been to Gramercy as well- but for a very fancy, uptight dinner. I had the Vegetarian tasting menus, which was spectacular, but I can't imagine it for a lunch. Though, I've heard the food in the bar area at Gramercy is also wonderful. There is something about Lupa, though. It's really amazing.... I would take it over Gramercy Any day. Too bad you're not drinking wine, though. They have some great Rose's on the menu this summer.
