Ame or Jardineire?
My foodie girlfriend and I will be in SF, and we're looking for something rediculous. We both live in NY, so we'd like to hit a restaurant different that those we can find in New York. Right now, we have reservations at both Ame or Jardiniere. Any suggestions? Should we be eating somewhere else?

I agree that Ame will be far more unusual for you than Jardiniere. I love Jardiniere, but the style of food is similar to that at other high-end French-California restaurants.
Ame is far more Japanese (especially in the appetizers), and therefore liable to be more unusual for you.

Ame's food is much more innovative and unique. I'm not knocking Jardiniere. Iis GORGEOUS, there's usually great music, and the crowd's usually fancied up for the symphony. I've only ever had (good) drinks and desser there, but the food I saw going by looked delicious but commonplace. But if you want unique, Ame. The food is so good, and delightfully different.

I have been to Jardinere twice, and both times the best dishes were the caviar and the desserts. I was not impressed with the entrees. They weren't bad, by any means, but they also weren't memorable. I do think, however, that their caviar service is the best I have had-the belinis are INCREDIBLE and the plate presentation is absolutely beautiful-it also includes lemon zest which I really liked. I think the best way to go there is to sit at the bar and have caviar, so Ame seems like it might be a better choice.
