3 Day SF/Sonoma Whirlwind

We are going to SF and Sonoma in late October.
Th nite in Sf, and FR/Sat in Sonoma.
We have reservations TH at the Slanted Door.
I need help with Friday and Sat nights - I do not want to drive terribly far from the hotel in Sonoma (Renaissance Spa).
Any help is appreciated.
- Some threads I read and restaurants we are considering are:
The Girl and The Fig
Cafe La Haye
Press
Terra

I would choose The General's Daughter over the girl and the fig. Girl and the Fig is much more casual and can be a nice lunch spot - although our last experience there is not memorable in a positive way, we have eaten there many times.

Instead of The Girl and the Fig, check out The Fig Cafe in Glen Ellen. Same owner, no reservations (can be a problem at peak times Fri/Sat), but NO corkage! Do your wine tasting, buy a bottle of something extravagent (or pick-up a top-shelf Cab at the Glen Ellen Village Market), and open it for free at The Fig Cafe. Some of the dishes are the same (fig salad), but the menu isn't quite as varied, and the atmosphere is definitely local.

Had a very nice meal at Harvest Moon Cafe on the Square in Sonoma. New American/California but not too precious as are so many, or too pretentious.

        Low key, pleasant--nice staff.

        Appetizers ran $7-12, mains $17-25.

Did you consider General's Daughter? I love Girl and the Fig, but the friends I usually go there with just went to GD and said it blows G and F out of the water for brunch. The two restaurants are both close to Sonoma Square.

Press and Terra are in Napa Valley. That would be a pretty long drive at night over not the greatest of highways.

Here's a link to my post about our whirlwind trip. Also have to add that I loved the server at the Fig. She was a gem!

We just had dinner at the Girl and the Fig on Saturday night. I would definitely eat there again. The dish that was spectacular was the heirloom tomato salad with smoked sea salt, goat cheese, mint and syrupy balsamic. Don't miss their cocktail list. Really imaginative and good. Loved the pork chop and frites too! I don't know about the other restaurants as we were only there for a night. The Renaisance is a little bit of a drive from the main square.
