Exciting Providence Dining News...

On the excellent food discussion forums at the Urbanplanet Providence boards (https://providence.urbanplanet.org) there was dicussion of two big news items today.

Two restaurants are opening:

1) Pauli Moto's: http://www.paulimotos.com
This seems to be Iron Chef Morimoto's mainstream Pan-Asian-Fusion offering. It will be joining Ruth Chris in the brand new G-Tech building downtown.

2) Stanley's: http://www.stanleyshamburgers.com
Under construction next to Jake's in the Jewelry District, it's a legendary RI (Central Falls) burger joint.

Hate to throw cold water on the party, but...

There is a Pauli Moto's down here at Tysons Corner Center, the mammoth shopping mall outside DC. It opened last year in a new entertainment wing with several other restaurants, a movie theater, a Barnes & Noble, etc.

The reviews range from decent to horrible and way overpriced. Chef Morimoto has been lambasted for letting his name get associated with this place. Apparently he has basically no involvement whatsoever. There should be some chatter about this on the DC-Baltimore board, as well as on www.donrockwell.com, which is DC-centric.

As for Stanley's, I would be at best cautiously optimistic. When legendary joints move or expand, the results often fail to live up to expectations.

I GUESS the opening of Pauli Motto's is exciting. But from what I understand, Chef Morimoto is just a distant consultant on those places, and doesn't have much at all to do with the actual cuisine.

I need a review as soon as it opens though!
