Marina del Rey/Venice area: Group of 10 for drinks/appetizers?
New to this area and am looking to take a group of about 10 co-workers out after work for appetizers & drinks in the Marina/Venice area to acquaint everyone with each other. Since all of us are new to the area, I want some place that we can actually sit around and talk with each other rather than a very loud place where we won't be able to converse.
Shanghai Red's on Fiji Way is not a very chow-worthy place, however, the ambiance during happy hour may fit your needs. You can either chose to sit on the outdoor patio, right on the main channel and watch boats sail by, or you can go to the back patio where it is very quiet and they have a ho-hum buffet of veggies, tortilla chips, cheese and crackers + plus you can order mediocre apps from the menu. Think outdoors, pleasant surroundings, the food is not the thing here.
The Chart House, Panay Way, off of Admiralty Way, has an interesting, quiet little happy hour in the bar with a special sunset menu that isn't bad at all. The point here is: it is quiet and not expensive and there are tables in the back you can put together and hold a decent conversation.
The Warehouse is right on the water. They have an interesting array of apps and happy hour specials. The bar is indoors and if they keep the widescreen TV volumn down you will probably have a nice time.
If you call ahead to any one of these places, they may agree to set aside some space for your group.

Your best bet might be the lounge at the Ritz-Carlton or the private rooms at James' Beach or Hal's (the public areas there are too busy and loud but there might be charges for the private rooms). The other choices in the area which come to mind would probably be too crowded and noisy to work for your needs (e.g. Beechwood, Cafe del Rey, or Primitivo).
