  1. Yujean Keang in Pasadena has an excellent Hot & Sour soup.

I am a pretty big defender of Yujean Kang on this board but I gotta say that think that their hot & sour is pretty blah.

    2. Din Tai Fung in Arcadia.

      1. Spring Garden in Pasadena, they serve the chili oil and vinegar on the side so you can make it as hot and spicy as you like, according to your own taste.

        1. oriental pearl is as good (and authentic) as i've been able to find... the one at szechuan best is ok... do best szechuan and chung king have h&s soup as well?

          1. I've always liked Chinese Friends', on Broadway at the north end of C'Town...

            r gould-saltman

            1. din tai fung's is very good - a bit on the 'fancy' side.. clearer, less salty more sour. haven't found my favorite out here yet...

              1. I like the Sweet & Sour soup at Go China in Pasadena. It is north of Union on Lake (east side of the street).

                1. Harvest Inn in Glendale. Unfortunately, it's the only thing on the menu worth going for.

                  1. china islamic restaurant, 7727 Garvey Ave, Rosemead, CA 91770-3003

the hot and sour soup is ridiculous, as is the chicken corn soup. i think they must specialize in soup because every table seems to have it, year-round.

When you do, get sesame bread, thin, with scallions, as soon as you sit down... and anything with lamb. It's really a cold-weather restaurant.

                    2. Chens. Long Beach on Broadway around Cherry. Very good soups.

                      1. It's always good at Mandarin Deli in Chinatown. Have it with an order of pan fried pork dumpling.

                        1. HAPPY FAMILY does a good vegetarian version.

DRAGON MARK is good for the regular (non-veggie) version, and depending on when you go, the version at CHANG'S GARDEN (in Arcadia) is pretty good as well.

                          1. I like it at Hop Woo in Chinatown.
