Fried Chicken

Looking for the best fried chicken on or near miami beach - something besides Joes - Joes is closed until October.

Yes. Went to Joe's on Sunday. Chicken was as usual, but prices have gone up all around. It's almost $10.00 for a large order of creamed spinach! Can you imagine paying $10.00 a lb. for spinach?!

Joe's Stone Crabs restaurant on South Beach serves sublime fried chicken in the retaurant and takeaway section as well. They will reopen for the season on October 13 at 5pm and for lunch on the 17th... 11 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Thanks for all your suggestions. We ended up taking out at both the 11th Street Diner and Cafeteria. Cafeteria was by far the better choice. We actually asked for the fried chicken entree without the waffle and with fries instead. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. The fries were large thick steak fries and were very good.

Fried chicken was what my husband wanted for his birthday dinner - and he was very happy! I think Joes will remain his number one choice but Cafeteria is a good/close second.

              Thanks again.

Let me start by saying that Advisor Boy loves fried chicken and so I find myself in a situation much like your own... always trying to find the best in South Florida. Joe's Fried Chicken (and fried oysters) are my number one choice at the TakeAway and I will be there opening day in October.

To be fair, we will substitute a delicious Chicken Milanese (thin fried chicken breasts) from a Cuban or Italian Restaurant often enough... but genuine 3 dimensional bone-in Southern Fried Chicken requires a VISION QUEST!!!

Publix will do in a pinch, but there are a number of quality "soul food" spots in Dade to check out. Perhaps you can do a survey in the name of discovering the perfect fried chicken and then let the hounds know your thoughts. I am always opened to new places to eat fried food.

For example - and slightly off topic - the fried foods at Catfish Dewey's in Lauderdale are top notch. You can do an "all you can eat" every night of the week with fried catfish (a super light white meat fish for those who have not tried it) for the less "health conscious" and steamed crab legs for the non-grease lovers... OH! they only use heart-smart canola oil - or so I hear.

Anyway - this is not going to help you get your chicken groove on - is it?

I like the fried chicken and waffle entree at Cafeteria on 560 Lincoln Mall. On Sundays, we drive to the nearest Cracker Barrel for the double-breasted fried chicken special with a side of mac n cheese and the skillet homefries (oh I can not believe I am admitting to this carb fest!!) 1960 NW 150th Av (1-75 @ Sheridan)

In a pinch, there is always Picadilly Cafeteria fried chicken which can be eaten with the blue haired ladies on site or packed up to go and crisped in your (pre-heated to 500) oven for 4-5 few minutes as the carry out always seems to get a little mushy from steaming itself in the package in the car. 132nd and Biscayne Blvd in North Miami.

If you're interested in a Survey of Soul - check out these places from Miami northward. Some I have sampled and some are on my wish list...

For great tasting chicken to go - most of my friends still swear by Popeye's spicy chicken over the KFC variety of takee outee.

                Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits - 5534 NW 7th Ave, Miami, 33127 - (305) 754-8587

Good Luck to you and please report all of your findings before all of my arteries clog forever...

Since I want to live to a ripe old age, my own search for good fried chicken is a very slow, infrequent process.

Of the above, though, I can say that the Gerogia Pig's strength is chopped pork, ribs, brunswick stew.. and chopped pork and brunswick stew. Their specials are disappointing, the fried chicken among them.

And I so badly want to like Betty's, the perennial go-to for soul food in Fort Lauderdale, but I've never had a meal there that didn't disappoint, fried chicken included.

Fran's Chiekn Haven up in Boca has a super neon sign, some yummy sides... and unremarkable fried chicken. Nothing wrong with it, mind you, just nothing to get excited about.

If there are any good chicken joints in or around lauderdale, list them as well!
