BYOW but in Quebec city

I am going to Quebec city this weekend and would appreciate very much recommendations on good BYOW resto where I could take my beloved wine fanatic husband. In Montreal, we always end up going to BYOW restos but somehow never in Quebec city.

  1. Unfortunately, MsD, Québec City had very few (or none at all) good BYOW restaurants. The only ones are obscure weird places. The BYOW movement has not reached Quebec City yet, but hopefully it will soon!

Id suggest discussing this with the restaranteur - for example, even if French is a stumbling block, I believe you could discuss bringing in your own wine at, say, Laurie Raphael.

That would be a great idea if the law allowed it. Of course, the restaurant could take a chance and say yes, but they could end up losing their liquor licence over this.

Exactly. The license is the problem...French or not. A guy I know owns a restaurant and when the inspector came, there was one single bottle that did not have a SAQ stamp...As a fine, 50% of the restaurant had to close for 3 weeks...So most restaurants would not risk that.

A stiff penalty! Our crazy wine club organized a few dinners at a "regular" restaurant a few years back and we had to leave with the empty bottles afterward. I really don't think we would try that again if it can put someone's business in trouble.

    2. I only know of one non Asian restaurant where you bring your own wine: Académie. It is located in Ste-Foy near the malls on boul. Laurier.

      1. Please avoid L'Académie...the food is mediocre at best...

        1. Never been so thanks for the tip
