Fig Spread

MaggieMuffin Aug 28, 2006 11:43 AM

Does anyone have a good recipe for fig spread, like you would buy at a high end shop? I tried to make "fig jam" on the weekend, and it came out way to fruity, almost strawberrish. Any thoughts?

Just bake them in a 350 oven till cooked down to jam consistency. You could add microplaned lemon rind, some honey, whatever you like after they are cooked.

I have a pretty simple recipe without much seasoning other than lemon and cinnamon, of course sugar is added. The flavor you got may have to do with the variety of fig you were using.

What kind of fig would you recommend? I think I used a black mission fig.

My mom makes it by cooking dried figs in orange juice until they break down.
