Grilled peaches - Getting the darn pit out!

Had a HUGE disaster. Everywhere I read lately, it's all about grilled peaches. How the heck do you get the pit out and keep it in one piece?? I ended up with a smushed mess that became even more so on the grill. Bottom line, into the garbage it went!!! HELP

    One word: freestone.

      Also, your peaches might be too ripe for grilling.

        ditto,there are freestone and clingstone peaches. You want freestone. Ask the seller which the peaches are.

        Ahh, that must be it. With some peaches, it slips out ala avocado, while with others, it's intricately meshed in! Now I know which to ask for!

          Even if you get the wrong peach, I've never had a problem scooping out the pit with spoon. Just dig it in and spin the peach so the spoon slides around the pit.

            Or a melon baller (parisienne scoop) with its sharpened edge can be handy.
