Pleasant meal at Hyatt Harborside

Last night my wife and I decided to try the Hyatt Harborside Hotel which very close to Logan Airport. The reason was we wanted a place on or near the water and didn't want to battle with trying to get reservations at any places in town during restaurant week. We had been to this hotel on a few previous occasions so decided to try it again.

This hotel and restaurant really have a "million dollar" view. From accross Boston harbor the hotel and restaurant look directly at the Boston skyline. There is a small outside dining area that is right along the waterside that is a great place to enjoy a cocktail or dinner and watch the sun set over the city.

Last night there was a wedding and a private party being held at the hotel so there were quite a few people around but the restaurant was only about half full.

I have never been one for "hotel food" but I have to say that the food last night was very good. Our server was very professional and attentive and along with the rest of the wait staff did a great job.

The cocktails were well prepared and the wine by the glass was an ample pour. They have a nice but limited wine list but I am sure almost anyoine could find something the would enjoy. A nice bread basket with several differnet types of breads was served with the meals.

We both had a shrimp cocktalis to start. They consisted of 5 very large freshly cooked shrimp served with a traditional cocktail sauce. Certainly nothing fancy but it was presented well and the freshness of the shrimp made it a great choice.

We then both opted for the daily seafood special which was a pan roasted Striped Bass served over a bed of creamy mashed potatos with a spicy glaze. The glaze had a slightly Asian flavor to it but it worked well with fish. A nice serving of steamed baby bok choy was served along side. The fish was very fresh and well prepared. We were both very satisfied with our choices. I noticed what was being served at a couple of other tables nearby and each of the dishes looked nicely prepared and well presented.

For dessert we shared a blueberry/apple crisp that was served with a genorous portion of vanilla ice cream. It was good but not exceptional.

We left very pleased and will certauinly go back again. The combination of a great view, nice service and good food make the Hyatt Harborside a good choice. Probably the only down side is that you have to drive to Logan Airport and pay the tunnel toll in order to get there.

This is nice to hear. My brother is getting married there next month, and my husband and I will be coming up from NYC. Thanks for the review. I'm looking forward to sipping cocktails on the terrace and not feeling compelled to go run into the city.

Fwiw, you can have it both ways. The water taxi runs between the Hyatt and Rowes Wharf. It's all of about a 7 to 8 minute trip.

I'm bumping this because it's the singular post I've found.....

Being summer, there's been a couple of well attended OP's on Boston waterfront dining options. Have any of the Hounds had any recent experiences here, alfresco or otherwise?

I worked in Eastie for many years until about six years ago. When we'd take visiting clients to lunch it was either to the late, lamented, Rita's in Chelsea or the Hyatt Harborside. The food, at that time, certainly didn't have much "wow-factor" but it was reliably good. It was the view, that view, that blew most of our customers away! All the other restaurants, that I'm aware of, sit on their view. The Hyatt Harborside view of Boston with the harbor in the foreground is simply unbeatable.

I have to say I was surprised to see this restaurant reviewed. I've stayed at the Hyatt at Logan a few times for convenience when needing to take an early flight the next morning... and its great for that purpose. So, I've had an occasional lunch and mostly breakfasts. The view is very nice, but one would imagine that the food... being a business hotel... and an airport hotel to boot... is not particularly special. I must qualify it by saying that I have not had dinner there, but based on the quality of breakfast and lunch, service, tabletop, menu and wine program... it is pleasant, but I have to say I would never have dinner there unless out of convenience... like say your staying in the hotel and there's a snowstorm. This is not a "destination" restaurant. The food is good, but much like any other Hyatt. I'd say it's great spot for breakfast, particularly if you're staying in the hotel and you have a 6am flight.
