Apple Jacks on Yonge -- oh dear

Just wanted to give a heads up as to how bad Apple Jacks is. It recently opened on Yonge, a few blocks north of Lawrence. Hubby and I decided to check it out a couple of nights ago. It was nice out, so we wanted someplace we could sit outside.

Well, as soon as I read the menu, I should have known -- "jack of all trades, master of none." A bit of tex-mex, italian, cajun, mediterranean, and a few more cuisines tossed in for good measure. Sigh. I had a glass of wine served in a dirty glass. The second glass was only marginally cleaner. We shared a cajun pecan-crusted shrimp app served with a chipotle mayo. Without the mayo, there would have been no flavour. The shrimp texture was very odd, almost mushy. Ick. Then we each had a pizza. We each had a few bites, then looked at each other and said "let's go". The crust was bready and tasteless, the sauce was non-existent, the cheese was overloaded and tasteless and the toppings had no flavour (andouille sausage on his, pepperoni on mine).

To be fair, the server was very nice and he was very distressed when we walked away from our dinner. He had both pizzas taken off of the menu, though we didn't ask him to do that.

To save the evening, we just went up the street to Wildfire, shared the appetizer platter and a couple of great desserts. Bonus: our wine was served in sparkling clean glasses.

I ate at the one near my house a couple of times. The first time I ordered a pasta dish that was good in concept, less good in execution. I went back a couple more times in the hopes that other things would be better (since it was cheap, open late and near my house), and never found anything else that even approached edible.
