Reviving old posts?

I'm trying to figure out if this is a good or a bad thing. On other boards, there tends to be one thread on a restaurant or a topic that people keep adding to so that what is built up over time is a very thorough picture of the subject. Sometimes it makes sense to do this on the new chowhound ... today on the Boston board someone piggy-backed onto a very old but informative post about a Polish restaurant. But sometimes, people are reviving old threads that have little substance and then it just seems silly. There's no need to revive the old post but there it is, with most responses over a year old.

Is the intention to start new threads, to revive old ones, or some combination of both?
