My DC and I had lunch at OM today. Of the two apps, three entrees, and two desserts, we tried everything but one entree. The app choices were borscht and Okinawa sweet ravioli. I had the borscht, which I enjoyed. It was a decent-sized portion, and was accented by sour cream and a very small amount of smoked potatoes, which were delicious. The sweet ravioli were very nice, but it was a tiny portion...2 very small ravioli with a few chinese long beans kind of wound around them. My DC really enjoyed them. The entree choices were scallops, lamb, and duck. I had the duck, which I would say was only okay. It was four slices of duck breast, maybe 2 or 3 bites to each piece. It was a little dry and not very flavorful, although the swirl of sauce that came with it was pleasant. No sign of the medjool dates that were listed [maybe in that sauce?]. The 'duck confit bisteeya' was a teeny little puff pastry filled with, I guess, duck confit and some filler. It was a pleasant little puff with no real discernible duck confit flavor [which bummed me out b/c it was the main reason I ordered the duck]. My DC really liked her lamb a lot...the bite I had was okay, not super flavorful, and the accompaniments weren't to my taste, but as I said, she really liked it. The desserts were creme brulee with biscotti and cheesecake. I had the cheesecake, and while it was very nice, it was probably less than 2 inches in diameter. Tiny. The creme brulee was bigger and came with what looked like a half of a biscotti. DC enjoyed it. We were not served any bread...don't know if that was an oversight or not, but we did sit down to small plates that were never used for anything. DC had a $13 glass of pinot gris and I had a $12 'aromatherapy cocktail' called a Raspberry Mojo that was very limey and a bit too tart for me. The lunch was my treat, so after tax and tip I dropped $80 for a lunch that left me not even close to full. I was joking that I was going to head over to Bartley's afterwards for a cheeseburger and some O-rings! :) The restaurant itself is very nice and the service was fine, but if that's an example of how much food you get for your money, I don't think I'll be going back. [Particularly in contrast to my experience on Tuesday at Via Matta, which I posted about that afternoon...good food, good portions, great service, great bread, and nice wine specials]

We wandered into LA Burdick after lunch to try out their famous hot chocolate...OH MY GOD!!! It was fabulous. You can even decide between dark, milk, and white chocolate. It was definitely the best hot chocolate ever. I think it has ruined me for Swiss Miss for life! :)

That makes me happy that I opted out of a dinner party there this evening. I opted out early enough that they invited another but it sounds like i didn't miss much.
