I'm visiting my brother this weekend and I don't want a 'Jewel' steak, anyone have a good rec for a decent butcher in the area?? Preferably featuring Prime cuts???

We lived in Cary for a few years and I always used to buy my meat at Orchard Prime Meats right on Main St. in Cary. We've since moved and are now closer to their Lake Zurich store. Everything I've gotten from them has been stellar.

Let me know what you think!

There's a great butcher on Algonquin Rd, west of Randall called Butcher on the Block

Tom's the best butcher. We drive up from Wheaton to go there. I highly recommend any of his beef (love the strip steaks, porterhouse and filet). His brats are made fresh and are great on the grill. I highly recommend the habanero brats if you can stand the heat. If not, the garlic and cracked black peppercorn should suffice.

Butcher on the Block....tell them their FedEx guy's wife said you should go there.

Butcher on the Block is 1/4 mile from my brother's house, so it looks like I have a winner. I truly appreciate the information from all---I hope to try all of them eventually.

My brother went to Butcher on the Block before I arrived and picked up four nice strip steaks. Unfortunately his gas grill leaves a little to be desired and it couldn't quite produce the heat required to truly do the job. The steaks however were still awfully good and looked like they could have been great, but I just didn't have the tools for the job.

Thanks also to the other posters as well, I've written down the recs and I will try them over the next few years as I get a chance to visit.
