Breakfast - South Florida - Boca

jessie620 Aug 23, 2006 09:28 PM

What has happened to the good breakfast places in the Boca area? There are none! I'm willing to travel up to Delray and down to Deerfield. I already know about Olympia Flame, but there has to be another GREAT breakfast place that I just don't know about. I've tried the Boca Diner and Boca Breakfast Club. Any other suggestions?

This thread is almost 4 yrs old, who bumped this!? I take back my previous answer LOL.

I really loved the bagels at Grammercy Bagel. It's on Jog Rd, just south of Atlantic in a little strip center. Always a wait to be seated, but it's clean and they have a really nice deli counter too. I think the bagels are what new yorkers are always looking for down here. But I'm just a dopey little Floridian so what do I know? ;)

You are right, they have a great breakfast, plan on waiting for a while on the weekends for sure. But I have found the Bagels at Westside Bagels are better then Way Bayond. IMO

I must be missing something. I took home a dozen bagels from Westside Bagels Too when they first opened in Boynton. The bagels were terrible -- spongy and when cut open had air bubbles in the dough. Not what I am used too.

Way Beyond Bagels has a Great Breakfast, 441 between glades and yamatoo west side. And I will second Tom Sawyers, very good breakfast. Its not for the calorie minded but always REALLY good.

Way Beyond Bagels has terrible bagels if you like them the traditional way, small and crusty. They are however good for sandwiches because they are soft and flatter then usual so your sandwich insides don't squirt out the back when you take a bite. The coffee is equally bad requiring a stop at the Starbucks a few doors down. I do enjoy a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel while I sit at an outdoor table and read the paper. The also have a good selection of lox, sturgeon, whitefish and herring that I usually take home. The best bagels in the area are at Bagel Tree in the Kings Point strip mall on Atlantic.
On my last visit I noticed at the connecting strip of stores just south of WBB a restaurant with a side seating area and an upscale Sunday brunch menu, any info from the local 'hounds on the place?
I like Flakowotz, l and love Luna Rosa by the beach in Delray. I don't care for Original Pancake House or Tom Sawyer. I need to try the Green Owl next week when I visit. Cafe de France on Atlantic in Delray for a cappuccino and pastry breakfast is outstanding.

Yeah I meant to say West Side Bagels, but Way Beyond is Just as good, just WAY expensive.

We have been going to Tom Sawyer's for years- My parents live in Boca. Had breakfast there this morning. I have also been having breakfast with my boyfriend at the Retro Denny's on Hypoluxo, but that's further North. I guess I don't mind that it's a Denny's so much since the decor is a little different. I haven't eaten at Boston's for Breakfast in years, not since I was a child. Bet I will get a wave of nostalgia if I go there :)

Most folks including me prefer Luna Rosa next door for Breakfast. Expect a long wait if you show up at 10AM Sunday. There will be no wait at Bostons. You can read between the lines...

Doesn't Boca have an Original Pancake House too? There used to be one on Palmetto Park Rd and Jog (NW corner, next to the sushi restaurant).

In Deerfield, in the Howard Johnson's on the beach is a cute little restaurant with a nice view. My bagel with nova was great. My dining partners enjoyed their eggs and the coffee was very good.

No, the Original House of Panckes is on in Delray on Federal-- but it is right on the Boca line- so I always consider it Boca...

The pancake house is still there and it is excellent.

I 2nd FLakowitz on Federal Hwy and 20th st near the 5th Ave shoppes--It is MY favorite place when I want to totally blow a diet.

They have the BEST REAL corned beef hash (not the canned yucky stuff)............the pre-breakfast marble cake is delicious and the bagels are wonderful

My other favorite place is THE ORIGINAL PANCAKE house in DELRAY on Federal...they have a homemade German Apple Pancake that is BAKED and looks like a huge upside down bowl covered in Cinnamon...

Also their OMLETTES are ideal- we normally SHARE an omlette and share the SMALL Baby Apple Pancake.
This is really an awesome totally blow your diet breakfast.

Flakowitz on Federal Hwy is very good; the pancake house in Delray Beach had great service but terrible food. The potato pancakes were inedible and the omelet was nothing to write home about.

Try the pancake house in the shopping center on the NW corner of Palmetto & Powerline. Their menus are almost identical & their food is much better. You will not be disappointed.

Flakowitz! The Boca location not the Boynton Beach spot. Service is just what you'd expect or should expect - a little surly in a fun way. But the regular breakfast items are well done and the accompaniments are liberal. There can be a wait even out the door I'm told though I've never seen it quite that busy. And of course bagels are the top item - it is a bakery after all. I just love it.

I can't knock their big plates of eggs and hash browns -- their idea of "two eggs" seems to be more like five -- but those bagels of theirs just don't do it for me. Better than the ubiquitous factory-made bagels that come out of Sunrise, though.

How are the bagels at Star Bakery in Delray? I've read good things, but when I'm in southern PBC at bagel times of the day, I'm most often in Boynton and get the ones at "Bagels &" in the Publix center at Jog and Boynton Beach Blvd. seem good enough.

That's a good place too and last winter we went there a lot since we were staying nearby in Boynton Beach. I'm glad you refreshed my memory.

I like it and I guess you have to qualify what is greasy. Meaning that I order eggs over easy and have never had them be greasy. Order bacon very crispy and that's the way it comes. It is just south of 20th street on the west side of the street. Linda

It is north of Glades on the West side of NW 2nd. Their food tends to be very greasy.
