Greek restaurant in the SFV

We’re looking for a recommendation for a Greek restaurant in the SFV. We do venture over the hill to Le Petit Greek in Larchmont Village. But on the days we’re looking to stay closer to home, does anyone have a recommendation for a good place in the Valley?

We have been to The Great Greek a few times, so we’re familiar with their offerings. But perhaps there is somewhere else we should try?

Thanks

There's a new Greek place across from El Torito on Riverside in Burbank -- haven't been but will check it out when I can.

I've heard that new Greek place on Riverside is pretty good..they say Aaron Spelling's former personal exec chef is the owner...and they have music too some nights. Looks fun.

There is a liitle greek restaurant in the Whole Foods shopping center at Tampa and Rinaldi. I haven't tried it yet.

Also, Alexis Greek Cafe in Northridge used to be pretty decent; it's at Tampa and Nordhoff.

Pozi's on Ventura in Tarzana -if it's run by the same people who had the Pozi's on Victory/Tampa in years past - should be good.

        These are all casual joints!

Alexis is very good IMO, I would highly recommend it.

The place next to Whole Foods is Cafe Graikos, food is mediocre and the service is a joke. I live 1 block from there but I will gladly make the extra drive to Alexis rather than eat there.

Pozi's is good for what it is, kind of fast food Greek. Very casual, the gyros are pretty good as are the fries. They serve burgers and such as well. Kind of in the same category as the Firehouse at Victory and Reseda.

            Interesting...
Have been to Graikos with a few friends many times. The kids love their greek pizza, and we've been very happy with their offerings. The Egg Lemon soup, the hummos, gyros plate, etc. - good stuff... and usually the service is fine, it's a small place, and occasionally we've had to wait a bit for food, but I can't say that it's been bad most of the time...

My experience has been that the vegetarian stuff is ok (hummous, greek salads etc) but the last couple times I went I had meat and shrimp kebobs and they tasted like they had been frozen for years and cooked before they were completely defosted. Just soggy and no flavor at all.

And they had 2 high school aged waitresses that spent the whole time chatting on their cell phones in the back and giggling, they would disappear for long stretches.

Of course it may have changed recently, it's probably been a year and a half since my last visit there.

Nevertheless I would strongly recommend Alexis over Graikos. YMMV.

Same experience here. I like their egg lemon soup and the hummus. I really like the rice pilaf too. My favorite is the Chicken Skordalia plate -- great garlic sauce! The service is a bit spotty, but I usually end up getting my food to go so I don't have to deal with it that often.

On another note, we had really poor service the two times we went to Alexis. The first time, the woman (owner I think) spent almost our entire dinner chatting with the table behind us, who were of Greek descent. We waited forever for our food and had to repeatedly ask for drink refills. The second time, they were out of the lamb that my husband ordered, but didn't tell us until they brought my entree out! My food got cold as we waited for his substitute entree to arrive.

Wow that's not good! Usually the owner Fatima is the hostess and she keeps the waitstaff jumping pretty good.

Maybe it's time to give CG another try.....

I have eatedn at Cage Graikos 4 or 5 times. I am a veg and love the food I have gotten there, especially the apps. It may be worth going if all you want is a nice snack.

I have had terrible service there as well. Perhaps it was because I was dining alone, but I felt ignored and dismissed. Waiter left me standing in an almost-empty restaurant waiting to be seated while he did some important business behind the bar...folding napkins or polishing glasses...

I had the coldest, most odd service of my life at Alexis. The lunch waitress was bordering on hostile. I felt distinctly uncomfortable and never went back. I wasn't that keen on the food either, which I thought was heavy, oily and not particularly flavorful.
